Who We Are…
The Lion of Judah Academy (Simba wa Yuda Academy in Swahili) is an English language Christian school for underprivileged children in Tanzania, East Africa…especially the children of poor Tanzanian pastors and church workers, and orphans. It currently goes from Awali (kindergarten) to Form Six (advanced level high school). Over 600 students currently are studying at The Lion of Judah Academy. Approximately one-half are boarding students, and one-half are “day scholars.”
Established in 2001, it has become one of the outstanding schools in all of Tanzania. Our secondary students consistently score within the top 1-2% of all Tanzanian high schools on their national exams.
But the most distinctive characteristic of the school is the emphasis on developing the spiritual lives of the students, as followers of Jesus Christ.
Students from all tribes and religious backgrounds — and from no religious background — are welcome at The Lion of Judah Academy, and our school community is a diverse one. But all students, and their families, know that at The Lion of Judah Academy, Jesus Christ is Lord.
A Miracle in the Bush…
The Lion of Judah Academy is a miracle. It’s a full-blown, no way to deny it, miracle of God. And it continues to grow, expand and develop every day. Those of us who’ve been involved in it on a ongoing basis have been too amazed…and too busy!…to take much time to chronicle what’s happened. And we’ve not spent nearly enough time letting others know what God has been doing out in that remote area of the Tanzania bush country, on the shore of Lake Victoria.
This site is going to be an effort toward correcting that short-coming.
We’re going to be sharing stories, information and history to let friends and strangers alike know more about what is happening at The Lion of Judah Academy — what God is doing. Our goal is to write one or two posts each week (time will tell if we can keep up that discipline), so we can keep you up to date on what’s happening at the school. Along the way we will also endeavor to fill in many of the blanks about what God has done along the way since 2001 — history, if you will — to provide a more complete picture of how “the miracle in the bush” has come to be.
You will also find much more information on the school’s website:
